DEEP CLEAN
Do you have a Dyson that smells terrible & has lost suction power? You're not alone. Static electricity + humidity are the perfect recipe to make layers of caked on dirt. Dyson doesn't give any instructions on cleaning the internal parts but there literally isn't any other way to clean out the gunk other than taking the whole canister apart & hosing it out. I do this every 6 months so just imagine how gross yours is!

No, it's not the most professional looking installation but the white will wear away slowly as it rains.

Bricks are usually installed horizontally around beds but I found they did poor job of actually holding dirt & mulch back, much less staying upright for any amount of time. I also don't have access to brick that can be purchased in small quantities so I simply turned @homedepot pavers around so the flat side faces out & the beveled side faces towards the soil. I have Portland cement that needs to be used so I knocked this border out in two days before adding mulch using a mortar base made of lime putty, sand, & Portland cement. If you've never messed with a lime mortar, it can be very frustrating when you muck up the water ratio. You can set a brick perfectly then it'll be lifted up when you go to set the next one. It's like working on a waterbed. 🤦🏼‍♀️ Not fun.

I set pavers with the same mortar 2 years ago around my walkway monkey grass & hydrangea bed set on clay soil. They still look perfect after a major drought & many wet periods (clay moves a lot depending on moisture level) with the exception of 2 cracks. I know what I did wrong in those two spots so overall lime cement mortar has proven to be worth the extra hassle.

I started the day early with plans of laying the border for my herb garden & getting my veggie garden planted. Well, the best laid plans, yada yada yada. Things went to hell quickly after opening the newly bought bird seed placed in our pantry. How hellish? Huge bag infested with weevils, larvae, & their eggs hell. I could literally see the larvae inching across my floor in all directions. I've never panic cleaned so fast in my life!!! I was on my hands & knees spraying pure vinegar to kill the tiny beasts, sweat dripping from my forehead. After an hour of this hell, I smelled like a fish salad. Awful to say the least.

After a thorough airing out, I started on my herb garden to only start a war with a wasp claiming my side door as her own. This B had the audacity to buzz me, then stare me down from the roof. The gaul! I won in the end with the help of my personal wasp sprayer. One of the reasons I married him.

Hoping for a better morning & the rain holds off until I get at least one side set in my herb garden.

Spring is the perfect time to whitewash your brick

Spring is the perfect time to whitewash your brick. It's cool enough to let your limewash cure slowly but warm enough to actually work outside. Best of all, my recipe is super inexpensive. Like 90% less expensive than paint or commercial "limewashes" & will never have to be reapplied like...ever. Seriously, it's legit.
